What is a Tincture?Updated a year ago
Here at GDR Labs, we employ many types of technologies and processes to produce our Dietary Supplement and Cosmetic products.
But far and above all others, when we decided to really dig into Research and Development for our product line, it became clear what method we wanted to serve as our foundation:
Tinctures.
As we always strive to produce the most safe, potent and deliverable components possible here at GDR Labs, when we found and read every one of the studies we could regarding tinctures, we were sold.
Very simply put, Tinctures are VERY old medicine.
Tinctures have been used about as long as alcohol was learned to be distilled, which is to say about 800 B.C.! There are even documented medicinal encyclopedias from 1000-1100 A.D. detailing herbal tincture recipes.
So, why is that we don't know about tinctures, if they've been around for so long?
Early tinctures employed fairly crude alcohol (definitely NOT your favorite brand of vodka...) and in some cases, utilized herbs that were dangerous or deadly...
Ultimately, with the invention of more easy-to-use options like tablets and capsules, tincturing became less and less prevalent, especially with a tainted history of issues.
Fast forward a millennia or two and distilling alcohol is artistry.
Not only that, but our understanding of herbal remedies and their ingredients has VASTLY and DRAMATICALLY increased... and improved.
Now, we have some serious options to bring to the concept of tincturing...
This is how the patent pending DualPolar™ process came about, and ultimately this process is not just the backbone of GDR Labs' products, but the entire skeleton.
When it comes to tincturing something, its actually fairly straightforward.
You have your marc (raw plant material, i.e. Ashwagandha Root Powder) and your menstruum (solvent, i.e. Ethanol), to use the older terms.
The marc is covered with the menstruum, is agitated (mixed), and then the mixture is left to extract all of the desirable phytochemicals present in the marc.
This process, via DualPolar™ technology, now only takes as little as 24 hours! Generally, this process would take weeks or months in traditional tincturing.
Once the desired amount of time has elapsed, the menstruum is then separated from the marc, and what you're left with is a highly concentrated liquid, rich with the compounds that were previously present in the raw plant material (marc).
Using this liquid, one can produce a multitude of items like, Dietary Supplements or even Cosmetics, which is exactly what we decided to do!
We hope this article provides some clarity on the some of the science behind our products here at GDR Labs, but be sure to do your own research, as always!
In the meantime, there are more and more article to be found in the help center so we sure to check them out, and our dedicated customer service team is standing by to answer any questions you may have.
